One Year Check Up

I had been dreading Logan's one year check up ever since it was scheduled.  He was due to have 4 shots, plus blood-work to determine if he was still anaemic.  Fortunately, Sins has always been able to be at each doctor visit so I don't have to be in the room when it comes time for the shots.  I get lightheaded just seeing the needles!  From the moment I set Logan down on the scale to be weighed he started crying like I've never heard him cry before.  He also screamed and cried during the rest of his visit, which absolutely ripped my heart out.  We have just 3 more months before we have to do this all over again!
So here are Logan's one year statistics:  weight - 19.9 pounds (which shockingly puts him in the 10%), length - 30 1/4 inches (50-75%) and head circumference - 47 centimetres (75%).  The best news came just a few days after his visit...He is no longer anaemic.

One Year Pictures

Just a couple of days before his birthday we took Logan to have his one year old pictures taken at Picture People. He was full of adorable smiles when the photographer first started taking pictures but by the end he was so over smiling and looking at the camera.  I think the pictures truly capture Logan's different looks.  When I see pictures of my handsome little guy I can't help but feel an abundance of pride and gratitude for God blessing us with a happy, healthy son.

I love his serious look

He was definitely hamming it up

What a difference a year makes

Logan is One!

I absolutely cannot believe that my baby boy is now one year old!  Our first year with precious Logan seemed to go by in a flash and was filled with so much happiness and wonderful memories.
We decided that we would keep things simple by celebrating Logan's special day at home with our close family.  As we sadly expected, my mom was still in the hospital on his birthday and I couldn't imagine celebrating without her.  The only thing to do was move the party to her hospital room, minus the rest of the family.  It was a great time!  We had snacks, cake and presents galore.  As Logan opened his gifts he seemed to be more interested in the wrapping paper rather than the actual gift (silly boy is completely fascinated by any paper product).  I think his favorite gift was the xylophone that we got him because he loves to make music.
Sins and I stayed up super late the night before to make Logan's smash cake and cake.  Sins made an awesome little soccer ball (of course) for him to smash and I made a cake for everyone else to eat in the shape of a number one.  They were fun to make and best of all, they were made with love.  It would have been so much easier to buy the cakes but I prefer the taste of "home-made" cake, rather than store bought.  Logan was not very interested in his smash cake at first and staying true to his character the faces he made during the first tastes were overly dramatic.  He eventually realized that he really did like the taste and eagerly ate the icing but did so very delicately, without making a mess.

It's not exactly beautiful but it sure was yummy

He quickly figured out how to unwrap his presents

So excited to bang on his xylophone

Studying to see how it works

First Zoo Trip

We have been taking advantage of the time that Sins isn't working to go on some fun family outings.  Since the weather was much cooler than recent days, we took Logan to the Fort Worth Zoo for the first time. It was surreal to take our own child to the zoo, after so many years of taking nieces and nephews!
Logan absolutely loves to watch birds and recently started signing "bird".  So of course, I was excited to get to Parrot Paradise - an aviary where parakeets and cockatiels fly freely.  Logan's eyes darted everywhere watching the colorful birds fly around us.  He was able to get face-to-face with some of the little birds as we fed them seeds on a stick. At one point he reached out and grabbed one of the parakeets he was feeding!
We ended our visit with a quick train ride back to the front of the zoo.  As soon as the train started to move Logan began to clap his hands and jump up and down with excitement.  He loved the train ride!
Needless to say, as soon as we got home our little monkey crashed.  It was an awesome adventure and we are looking forward to our next visit to the zoo.

Fun times feeding the birds!

Our Baby Is Growing Up, Fast

My heart is full of so much joy as I watch Logan grow and learn new things.  The last few weeks have been so exciting for us as he has started giving kisses, taking steps, waving, clapping, giving high-fives, dancing and using the sign language we have been teaching him.  He has quickly learned the sign for bird, and has become a bird-watcher with his daddy at the kitchen window.  He has also learned the sign to brush his teeth, drink and dog.  With every day that passes he is becoming less and less of a baby, and that is breaking this momma's heart (and daddy's).  Sins and I are torn with the fact that we want him to stay our sweet little baby but at the same time we want him to grow up so we can do more things with him.  It's true what they say...They grow up so fast!
